Setup
MuteBetBot works the moment it joins. One thing needs a human: role order.
1. Move the bot's role up
Discord only lets a bot time out members whose highest role is below the bot's own. New bot roles start near the bottom, so open Server Settings > Roles and drag MuteBetBot above the roles of anyone who will bet.
Server Owner Admin MuteBetBot ← put it here Regulars ← can be timed out Bet Muted ← created by the bot, below it @everyone
Administrators, the owner, and members above the bot can still bet. If they lose they get an honor mute: the marker role plus a public reminder when they talk, but no timeout.
Run /mutebet repair any time to re-check permissions and role order.
2. Permissions
The invite link asks for exactly these: Moderate Members, Manage Roles, View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Read Message History, and (optional) View Audit Log, used to notice when a moderator lifts a bet-mute by hand.
3. Settings
Admins (Manage Server, or the configured admin role) change these with /mutebet config set. Bets already made, and mutes already won, keep the settings they started with.
| Setting | Default | Allowed | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
max_concurrent_mutes | 3 | 1 to 25 | How many members can be bet-muted at once. Past the limit, a winner can wait in line. |
mute_expiry | 30d | 7d, 30d, 90d, 365d, never | How long a winner has to use their mute. |
allowed_durations | 30m, 1h, 2h, 6h, 24h | any of 30m, 1h, 2h, 6h, 24h | Durations offered by /bet create. |
confirm_window | 3d | 1h to 14d | Time to answer a claim before it goes to an admin. |
target_cooldown | 24h | 0 to 7d | Minimum gap between two bet-mutes on the same member. |
max_open_proposals_per_user | 3 | 1 to 10 | Unaccepted proposals one member can have open. |
unmutable_members | honor | honor, reject | Bets with admins or members above the bot: honor mutes, or refused. |
rejoin_policy | restart_full | restart_full, resume_remaining | What happens when a muted member leaves and comes back. |
admin_role | none | any role | Holders can use admin commands, in addition to Manage Server. |
announce_channel | none | any text channel | Where results, disputes, and mutes are posted (default: where they happen). |
enabled | true | true, false | Pause new bets and mutes without uninstalling. |
Removing the bot
Use /mutebet uninstall before removing the bot to clean up its role. It lifts running bet-mutes, deletes the marker role, and leaves. If you just kick it, the role stays behind and running timeouts expire on their own within 24 hours.
